Laser Dentistry

Lasers have been used in other medical fields for many years and have revolutionized many procedures, notably eye surgery and hair deduction. This proven technology is now an recognized aspect of present dentistry, and is widely used in Europe and the USA. Laser dentistry has been practiced for more than 12 years and recent advances have enhanced the considerable benefits for patients.

Contact your nearest laser dentist can talk to you about the lasers they are using and what sort of treatments these lasers offer.

The benefits for patients include:

  • Fewer visits
  • Less discomfort
  • Reduced treatment time
  • Less use of needles and drills
  • Preservation of teeth while targeting decay
  • Protects teeth against further decay

Laser dentistry can offer:

  • Needle and drill-free fillings in many cases
  • Effective treatments for sensitive teeth
  • Root canal and gum disease treatments

How does it work?

Many types of lasers are used in dentistry.

A laser device includes a source of electricity; mirrors direct the beam, a crystal or gas that is stimulated to emit the light and tubing to deliver the light energy. The nature of the material through which the light passes determines the specific properties of the laser and what it can do in the human body. Instrument design is tailored to specific uses. Many dental lasers, for example, include long narrow tubing so that the dentist can use it in the narrow confines of a person's mouth.

When the laser is applied to the area, the laser energy is absorbed. Depending on the procedure, the effect may be to sterilize the area, to remove decay or even to make the teeth less sensitive. When used on soft tissue, lasers often promote faster healing.

Your laser dentist will be happy to answer any questions you have about laser safety. Contact a dentist now
